Even as he dealt with problem after problem on the home front. Richard directed the Council to turn their attention to France. and the undeclared war the French had been waging on the sea. (The very problem skillfully manipulated by DorsetL to gain control of the fleet and the treasury for the Woodville cause).
On May 11 th an Envoy was sent to the Lord Cordes . The envoy was empowered to discuss a mutual restoration of ships and goods as a prelude to a renewed truce. Lord Dynham, the Deputy Governor of Calais was instructed to further the negotiations as best he could.
Friendship with Maximillian
After dealing with peoblems and threats on a daily basis it must have been like a beacon of light and hope when a message from Maximillion of Burgundy arrived with messages of friendship to the new Government. Richard responded quickly and warmly pledging a continuance of their old peace and amity.
