Soldier
22nd August 1485, the Battle of Redemore has been lost and won. Among the dead waiting burial an unknown Soldier is found, closer to death than life by sheer chance by an exceptional healer, trained in both herbal medicine and surgery. She is appalled by the despoiling of his body, laid out naked on top of an altar of the dead. Filled with compassion, she is determined he will be cleansed of the gore of battle and his soul shrivened before he dies. With cunning she persuades the enemy soldiers, guarding the bodies to aid her in her task. When morning comes, he is still breathing, but remains unconscious. There follows a long and arduous battle to save his life and restore him to health. When at last, after months, he wakes, he has no memory of his past life or his identity. Day by Day he embraces the new life given to him by God, becoming an accepted and respected member of the community. But when a letter arrives from Lord Lovell , he is drawn back into the Yorkist cause and has no choice but to seek out his past.
Travelling northward, he must endeavour to keep ahead of the advancing forces of Henry Tudor, also travelling northward to put down the Yorkist backlash to his reign.
Set against the backdrop of tyranny and rebellion, the man with no other name but Soldier must seek out his past in order to secure his future, but where will his journey lead him
